Florian Bach and Alexandre Babel play with the idea of negative space and absence in this imagination of their work Ashphalte. Elements such as light, color and sculptures change the objects and their surroundings and create a counterpoint between sound and image.
Artist Bio
Alexandre Babel (born 1980), drummer and composer, challenges listeners' expectations of conventional musical forms in his work. Visual artist Florian Bach (born 1975) focuses his work on social violence, deciphering situations with complex political implications. Since 2014, they have collaborated on projects that establish a novel relationship between sound and visual, sculptural, and spatial contexts. Asphalt is a performance piece by Babel, first presented in 2020, set to a sculpture by Bach. At its center is a drum set covered in bitumen.
This podcast series presents conversations and sounds from the 2025 edition of the Klang Moor Schopfe Festival. Each episode features one particular work and is an attempt to capture the underlying philosophies and processes of the artists in their own words, set to recordings of the installations and occasional sonic interventions by the author.
