Claudia Stöckli ~ Transposed Humidity

Podcast
by Abhishek Mathur

Claudia Stöckli describes the political, social and spiritual motivations behind her installation, in which changes in humidity trigger changes in the sound composition. She is joined in this conversation by Mouhssine Bousouiss, a percussionist from the Gnawa community, whose music and healing practices are an integral part of the work.

Artist Bio

Sound artist Claudia Stöckli has been exploring the Anthropocene for over ten years. Her works are hybrids of installation, text, composition, and electronic and polyphonic sounds. Using artistic means, she creates microsystems in which invisible processes become audible. In July 2024, she was artist-in-residence at the Institute for Computer Music and Sound Technology at the Zurich University of the Arts (ZHdK), where she deepened her studies in acoustic ecology. Her installation Transposed Humidity addresses the global increase in humidity due to climate change. She is particularly interested in the effects of rising or falling humidity on a composition. Stöckli regularly collaborates with guest musicians who bring her installations to life through performance.

This podcast series presents conversations and sounds from the 2025 edition of the Klang Moor Schopfe Festival. Each episode features one particular work and is an attempt to capture the underlying philosophies and processes of the artists in their own words, set to recordings of the installations and occasional sonic interventions by the author.

The next edition of the Klang Moor Schopfe festival will take place from Sept 2 - 12, 2027.
