The filmmaker Krish and the young boy Deekshith talk about what holds a special place in their hearts: Kodi Bengre, a fishing village on the west coast of India. In this short film shot on 8-mm, the two protagonists spend an afternoon attempting to understand the idea of «Paradise» in the face of change.

Am Flussufer in Bellavista lernte eine junge Oneida, Alabados zu singen. Die traditionellen Begräbnisgesänge der Afrokolumbianer an der Pazifikküste dienten dazu, sich von den Toten zu verabschieden, wenn sie in das Reich der Seelen zurückkehrten. Als Oneida acht Jahre alt war, frass eine Schlange ihr Bein und liess sie verletzt im Dschungel zurück – eine Metapher für das, was kommen sollte: das Boyajá-Massaker. Mit Songs that Flood the River zeichnet Regisseur Germán Arango die Narben von Kolumbiens nach und hofft auf eine friedliche Zukunft.
Along the riverbank in Bellavista, a young Oneida learned to sing alabados. The traditional funeral chants sung by Afro-Colombians on the Pacific coast served to bid farewell to the dead as they returned to the realm of souls. When Oneida was eight years old, a snake devoured her leg, leaving her injured in the jungle – a looming metaphor for what was to come: the Boyajá Massacre. With Songs that Flood the River, director Germán Arango marks the scars of Colombia’s misfortune, hoping for a peaceful future.
