Von Erasure-Poesie, die bestehende Texte neu deutet bis zur Suche nach filmischen Sprachen, vom (Neu-)Schreiben bis zum lauten (Neu-)Lesen. Hier werfen wir einen Blick auf die vielfältigen Formen, aus denen Poesie entsteht. Uzma Falak (Kashmir), nithin shams (Kerala/Berlin) und Yashaswini (Bangalore) experimentieren und performen dabei live.

In Chapter 01 of Soft Bodies, Hard Words: Poetry in Times of Crisis, three artists share their practices that grapple with forms of expressing, sounding, and creating via poetry. From erasure poems to telling the life of a poet, from translation and remediation to research and finding cinematic languages, from (re)writing to (re)reading out loud, we will look at the diverse visual and sonic forms that poetry gets recomposed in. Featuring experimental and performative sessions by Uzma Falak (Kashmir), nithin shams (Kerala/ Berlin), and Yashaswini Raghunandan (Bangalore).

Biography

nithin shams plays with sound. They are based in Berlin and are re-learning everything they thought they knew about sound, sometimes embarrassingly. They have been nurtured and have nurtured homes in Sharjah, Cochin, Chennai, Sonipat, New Delhi, Bastora, Attapadi and now Neukölln. Their main areas of interest are community building, arts education, residency design, walking, thinking and sharing their love for sounds.Their ears are open and welcome to anyone who wants to say hello. . Biography

Yashaswini Raghunandan lives in Bangalore and works with both film and sound to build docu fiction narratives as a way to think about the present. In 2019, she made her first feature film, That Cloud Never Left, which premiered at the International Film Festival Rotterdam and was selected for the Best Experimental Film award at Sharjah Film Platform; the Gold FILAF at the Festival of Art and Film, Perpignan, France; and received a Special Mention at the Kasseler DokFest.

Biography

Uzma Falak, pursuing a PhD in anthropology at the University of Heidelberg, researches how Kashmiri women use sound to imagine different realities. Her artistic and academic work, poetry, essays, and reportage have appeared in several publications, such as English Language Notes, Anthropology and Humanism, and Guernica, as well as several edited collections. She has presented her written, visual, and sound work, including her film, Till Then the Roads Carry Her, at several galleries, festivals, universities, and theaters, such as the Tate Modern Exchange, West Space, and the Australian Centre for Contemporary Art (Naarm/ Melbourne), among others.
