Shayna Silverstein is a Lecturer in world music at Northwestern University. Her doctoral work examined Syrian dabke in relation to embodiment, gender and sexuality, rhythm and meter, and issues of nationalism and sectarianism. She received her Ph.D. in Ethnomusicology from the University of Chicago in 2012.
