Nirmal Chander arbeitet seit 1996 im Bereich des dokumentarischen Films als Editor, Regisseur und Produzent. Er hat mehr als zehn Dokumentarfilme realisiert und an über 30 Produktionen als Cutter mitgewirkt. Seine Filme wurden auf zahlreichen internationalen Festivals gezeigt, mehrfach ausgezeichnet und insbesondere für ihre sorgfältige Figurenwahl, ihre erzählerische Qualität sowie ihren humanistischen Ansatz gewürdigt. Einige seiner Arbeiten wurden auf BBC Online sowie auf indischen Fernsehsendern wie NDTV und Doordarshan ausgestrahlt. Chander ist Träger von drei National Film Awards, verliehen vom Präsidenten Indiens für herausragende Leistungen im Film, und sein Dokumentarfilm Moti Bagh war 2019 Indiens Beitrag für die Oscar-Einreichung. Er ist Gründer von Uphill Films.

Nirmal Chander has worked in the field of non-fiction since 1996 as editor, director and producer. He has directed more than 10 documentaries and has over thirty editing credits. His films have travelled to many international festivals, winning multiple awards and receiving appreciation for their choice and presentation of characters, storytelling skills and humanistic approach. Some of his films have been telecast on BBC Online and Indian TV channels such as NDTV and Doordarshan. He is the recipient of three National Film Awards from the President of India for excellence in cinema and his documentary Moti Bagh was an Oscar entry from India in 2019. He is sole proprietor of Uphill Films.
