Biography

Miriam de Rosa is an associate professor of film, photography and television at the department of philosophy and cultural heritage. Before arriving in Venice, she was senior lecturer at Coventry University (UK).She is the author of the monograph »Cinema e postmedia« (2013) and the co-editor (with Vinzenz Hediger) of »Post-what? Post-when? Thinking moving images beyond the post-medium/post-cinema condition«, a special issue of Cinéma&Cie forthcoming in fall 2016.

As part of the Q&A series of the 10^th Norient Film Festival 2021, radio producer Anna Trechsel sat down with the director of the documentary Panoptic (Lebanon/United Arab Emirates) Rana Eid.

Rana Eid’s Panoptic takes the viewer on a dark peregrination in the city of Beirut, and becomes a terrain on which images, sounds and voices superimpose and coalesce, as if to mirror the complexities and rhythms of the city itself.

As part of the Q&A series of the 10^th Norient Film Festival 2021, the directors of the documentaries A Girl’s Band (Argentina 2018) Marilina Giménez and Dazzle Lights (Argentina 2018) Alejandro Gallo Bermúdez came together and talked about their films. The session was moderated by cultural producer Luisa Fernanda Uribe.

How can dominant narratives be challenged in a patriarchal music industry in Latin America? Who has privileges as agents of the music industry? How can alternative representations be empowered? To find partial answers to these questions, listen again to Alexander, Luisa, and Marilina’s discussion.

Biography

Luisa Fernanda Uribe studies sociology, anthropology, and cultural studies in Colombia. She has been working on feminist spaces since 2010 with a particular interest in the participation of women in public spaces and nightlife in Colombia and Latin America. She is one of the founders of Pez Alado, a feminist collective that works against harassment and violence in clubs and that also creates tools for safer and more inclusive night spaces in the country. She is also a founder of ECO, a platform increasing the political awareness and participation of different agents of the industry in urgent debates about collectivity, decolonization, and other key topics.
