Curating Means Discover, Share, Discourse

Quotation
by Raphael Kariuki

What is most important to you when curating?

To find content that contributes to the concept without being too biased by my personal experience or understanding.

What are the biggest conflicts / pleasures you encounter when curating?

Conflicts – in my work with Sound of Nairobi arise when deciding what to leave out and what to include, while trying to watch out for my bias. Biggest pleasure so far is working with artists and material that gives me new perspectives wider than my own.

What does curating mean to you?

Curating is about discovery, sharing, and discourse. About enriching each other.

These quotations have been published in the Norient book Politics of Curatorship: Collective and Affective Interventions, edited by Philipp Rhensius and Monia Acciari (Norient Books 2023).
