Martin Stokes has been traveling around the Mediterranean and listening to its sounds since the early 1980s. He teaches at King’s College London. He is the author of The Republic of Love: Cultural Intimacy in Turkish Popular Music (Chicago 2010) and most recently Music and Citizenship (Oxford 2023).
