Anja Brunner is an ethnomusicologist at the University of Vienna, Austria, leading the research project «Women Musicians from Syria: Performance, Networks, Belonging/s» (2020–2023, funded by the FWF Austrian Science Fund). From 2015–2018, she worked as an ethnomusicologist at the University of Bern, Switzerland. She published on popular music in Senegal and Cameroon and on music from the Balkans in diasporic countries, regularly discussing postcolonial and feminist matters. Her latest book is Bikutsi – A Beti Dance Music on the Rise, 1970–1990 (2021). From 2016 to 2021, she was the general secretary of IASPM D-A-CH.
