Florian Carl
Florian Carl is a lecturer in the Department of Music and Dance at the University of Cape Coast, Ghana. He studied musicology, social anthropology and African studies at the University of Cologne, Germany, and the University of Chicago, USA, and received his PhD in ethnomusicology from the University of Music, Drama, and Media Hanover, Germany, in 2007. He is author of “Was bedeutet uns Afrika? Zur Darstellung afrikanischer Musik im deutschsprachigen Diskurs des 19. und frühen 20. Jahrhunderts” (LIT, 2004) and “Berlin/Accra. Music, Travel, and the Production of Space” (LIT, 2009). His major research interest, currently, is in music and popular culture in Ghana and its diaspora.
