Daniel J. Gilman is an expert in the political and cultural affairs of the Arabic-speaking Middle East and North Africa. Trained as a cultural anthropologist, he now works as an analyst and consultant on contemporary Egypt and the Middle East, as well as on national security issues. He is the author of the book Cairo Pop: Youth Music in Contemporary Egypt, on popular culture and nationalism in Egypt.
