Carla J. Maier forscht zurzeit zu Multimodaler Anthropologie am Zentrum für Stadtforschung am Institut für Europäische Ethnologie der HU Berlin. Zuvor war sie Gastprofessorin für Cultural Studies am Institut für Anglistik und Amerikanistik (Universität Potsdam). Ihr Schwerpunkt liegt auf Klang und Zuhören, insbesondere in Bezug auf Fragen der Dekolonisierung in akademischer und künstlerischer Theorie und Praxis.

Sie hat ethnografische Forschungen in London (U.K.) und Kopenhagen (Denmark) durchgeführt und im Rahmen ihrer Forschung und Lehre Sound Walks, Audio Papers und Audio Walks produziert und moderiert. Sie ist Autorin von Transcultural Sound Practices: British Asian Dance Music as Cultural Transformation (2020).

Carla J. Maier is researcher of multimodal anthropology at the Centre for Urban Studies at the Institute for European Ethnology. Prior to this she was Visiting Professor of cultural studies at the Department of English and American Studies (Potsdam University). Her focus is on sound and listening, particularly in relation to questions of decolonization in academic and artistic theory and practice.

She has conducted ethnographic research in London (U.K.) and Copenhagen (Denmark) and has produced and facilitated sound walks, audio papers, and audio walks as part of her research and teaching.
