Laundering money is the process of transforming most of the proceeds from crime into ostensibly legitimate money or other assets. In these photos the Indonesian heavy metal band Burgerkill satirizes the rampant corruption in their country and the men that perpetuate it. I included a little joke: just imagine if the stupid corruptors really laundered their money in a washing machine!

Biography

Refantho Ramadhan is a photographer from Bandung, Indonesia. He specializes in stage and creative music photography and worked three years as an official tour photographer for Burgerkill. Follow him on Instagram.

Solitude is a very important thing for us Finns. It is a bit like loneliness in Japan, but not so posh. Sometimes we have to go into the woods to be alone, or spend a night out with friends without saying anything to anyone. Mostly it is a positive thing, it only turns negative if we are forced to be alone against our will. This series follows various underground bands from Helsinki who manifest this positive side of loneliness. The photos are dark, but never gloomy or depressed. These bands have all grown from the same fertile underground between visual arts and music in Helsinki.

Biography

Antti Ahonen is a photographer from Helsinki, Finland, specialized in experimental live performances. His background is in visual arts, but he has worked widely in the fields of photography, sound, media and performance art.

I have documented South African music scenes for a few years now. Because we had musical pioneers and because we now have the Internet, these scenes are exploding: more and more artists are starting to get international recognition. My small selection, photographed over a few years, shows some of the diversity in the scene. You can find pictures of anyone from Invizable, who started off as a producer for Gazelle (see interview here), to Spoko, the originator of the Bacardi house sound and now part of the world-touring Fantasma with Spoke Mathambo, to a portrait of Nozinja, the now Warp Records-signed pioneer of Shangaan Electro (see portrait here). Music is reflective of the richness of the soul of South Africa. It is our way of telling our stories.
