M.I.A., die tamilische Künstlerin aus London, bastelt weiter an ihrer kontrastreichen Weltmusik der Zukunft. Zwei Jahren nach ihrem Erfolgsalbum «Kala» inszeniert sie sich auf ihrer neuen CD «Maya» sowohl als Pop taugliche Madonna der Gegenwart als auch als radikale Aktivistin. Sie inszeniert im Video «Born Free» Gewalt so radikal wie schon lange niemand mehr. Und mit ihrer Elektro-Pop Hymne «XXXO» könnte sie wieder die Massen erreichen. M.I.A bleibt widersprüchlich und kaum fassbar. In den USA ist «Born Free» bereits zensuriert.
