pitch guidelines

Are you interested in writing a text or curating an Online Special for the Norient platform The Now in Sound? This is what we are seeking for.

What Are We Looking For?

At the moment we’re only accepting pitches for the curation of Norient Specials

  • Norient Specials include an essay/video/film/sound collection based on a certain focus, research idea or thesis, a general reflection or critique that puts your chosen topic in the context a cultural, aesthetic, or political debate
  • see. e.g. for example Sampling Politics Today (digital & pdf) or Sonic Traces From Italy (digital & book)
  • published at the Norient Space and/or if possible, as a book, podcast, film etc.

A Norient Special should be about, inspired, or driven by:

  • cutting-edge niche music from all over the world that speaks to what is possible and thinkable today – and what in some cases might influence future mainstream culture(s)
  • sounds and noises that could be heard as seismographs of the now
  • audiovisual art, films, or music videos
  • the urge to speak to various readers: insiders as much as people who – through your take on the topic – will get drawn to a new phenomenon and who will be able to explore of our world

What Are We Not Looking For?

  • music, concert, or festival reviews
  • arbitrary opinion pieces that are not rooted in any kind of research
  • interviews or profiles (unless you have some kind of exclusive)

How to Pitch Us

Please send abstracts (max. 100 words) including

  • main idea of the Norient Special
  • one or two hashtags precisely summarizing it

  • send it to space (at) norient.com and we will get back to you and discuss how to proceed

The Norient Editorial Board

As editors of Norient, we are thrilled to bring out your argument in the best possible way. If we want to see your text published, we will work on it with you in detail. We think that strong, deep, personal, and yet clearly written texts make a difference in today’s fast-paced world and digitized landscapes.
