Laura Martinez
Laura Martínez was born in México City in 1969. In 1993 she earned her B.A. in English from Universidad Nacional Autónoma de México in. In 2000 she received her M.A. in Spanish from Michigan State University and in 2005 her Ph. D. in Spanish Cultural Studies from the same institution. She has worked as a language teacher both in the United States and Mexico and publishes regularly in specialized journals on topics such as Spanish American Literature and Culture and Hispanic Linguistics. Her Ph.D. dissertation focused on the study of Mexican rock music.

Laura Martinez analyzes Mexican Rock music as system of sharp social distinctions based on musical taste, language, and dress. Furthermore, rock music creates a dialogue between the culture of different groups, opening a possible path to overcome isolation and Otherness.
