Der bengalische Musikethnologe Deben Bhattacharya (1921-2001) reiste zwischen 1955 und 1970 nach Afghanistan und Bosnien Herzegowina. Einige seiner Aufnahmen sind jetzt auf CD erhältlich.
Deben Bhattacharya nahm Hirtengesänge, Solos auf der Saz-Laute, der Surnai-Oboe und auf verschiedenen Trommeln, Hochzeitslieder und quere Tanzrhythmen auf und fotografierte die Musikerinnen und Sänger. Die Tondokumente sind jetzt auf einer Doppel-CD erhältlich. Sie zeugen von der eindrücklichen Vielfalt der muslimischen Musik in Europa und Asien.
